Staff profiles

Our resident Caithness teuchter, Andrew, joined the practice as a pre-reg Dispensing Optician way back in 1999 after qualifying from Glasgow Caledonian University. 24 years, one happy marriage and two children later he is still here, albeit showing a few signs of wear and tear!

2008 was an exciting year for Linda. A chance comment on New Year’s Eve led to a whirlwind adventure and within six months, she had moved here from the south of England….even managing to have a baby girl on the way. 15 years later, Linda lives with her husband and 2 girls in Muckle Roe.

Marie began her optical career at the age of 14, taking on a Saturday job with Kelly Opticians as a lab technician. Barring a short career break to have her son Bobbi, Marie has been here ever since.

Originating from the steel city of Sheffield, Alice embarked upon the exciting journey to Shetland when she was eleven and has lived here ever since. Alice started working with us during the Covid19 pandemic and so has only recently learned what her co-workers look like.

Originally from Buckie, Sharon has lived in Shetland longer than she's lived anywhere else having moved up here with her Mum and Dad when she was 14. Now, many years later, she is still here - married to a Shetland man and with two, grown up, kids.

Lindsay was born in raised in Bahrain. She moved to Shetland in 2001 with her family. She is a published author and lives with her husband, daughter and three labradors. In her free time she enjoys reading, cooking and singing.

Currently completing 6th year at the Anderson High School, Niamh is currently working with us on Saturdays and during the holidays. Niamh is planning to study Optometry at university and we hope that she will want to come back to work in Shetland once qualified (hint hint Niamh!!).
